National Caregivers Month: Celebrating Milestones
November is National Caregivers Month, and UScellular recognizes that providing support and care for loved ones is a year-round effort. As we reflect on this month, I’m thrilled to share two milestones we’re celebrating: UScellular was named to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces™ list and it’s the year anniversary of our newest Associate Resource Group, Empowering Parents and Caregivers Together (EmPACT).
UScellular is leading the way in providing adoption and foster care benefits to help our associates become parents through adoption or foster care. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption recognized our program because it includes financial assistance of up to $10,000 in qualifying expenses per adoption after three months of service, and six weeks of paid parental leave to associates, who have worked for us for at least six months, when growing their family by birth or adoption. Associates also have free premium access to Care.com, the world’s largest network of care providers, and so much more.
As the executive sponsor of EmPACT, it’s also exciting to celebrate the one-year anniversary of EmPACT. Like with caregiving, it can take a village. This is why it’s amazing to see EmPACT already become a valuable community of associates giving support, sharing ideas and guidance and connecting to vital resources.
In its first year, EmPACT has supported its more than 400 members through:
- Developing resource guides for pre-pregnancy through adult life stages.
- Creating discussion groups and resources for associates in various life stages
- Connecting members with open discussions, guest speakers and relevant webinars on topics, including parental guilt, work-life balance, parenting in the digital age, talking to kids about gun violence, purchasing a home and mortgages, summertime childcare and caring for the caregivers.
- Volunteering with Holiday Heroes by putting together arts and crafts activity kits distributed to Chicagoland hospitals to help support local families.
