Extending our Partnership with Black Diamond Charities

At UScellular, we are proud to support our veteran associates and their families with benefits such as paid leave, education assistance, a veteran-focused associate resource group and physical, emotional, social and financial well-being programs.

For the second year in a row, we have extended our support beyond our company through a $5,000 grant to Black Diamond Charities, a nonprofit that provides free project management training for military members to help advance their civilian careers.

We believe the project management skills gained from Black Diamond Charities’ courses combined with the leadership skills gained through the military set up military veterans to be key candidates for roles at UScellular and other companies. Members of my project management team have been volunteering with the organization for the past year, and so far, our grant has helped 27 military members and their families complete the training. More are scheduled in the fall, and students who complete the courses are then eligible to receive books, Project Management Institute membership, practice test bundles, exam fees, training and guidance to prepare for and pass the CAPM and PMP certification exams.

Late last year I chatted with UScellular CEO Laurent Therivel, and Bill Baxter, course program manager and instructor at Black Diamond Charities, to talk about how the partnership we’ve created will set up veterans and their spouses for success in their careers. I encourage you to watch this video conversation to learn more about the important work Black Diamond Charities does for the military community.
