UScellular and KPMG LLP Launch 5G Private Cellular Network at KPMG’s Chicago Ignition Center
Enables Advanced Technology Applications at KPMG’s Chicago Headquarters
CHICAGO (October 23, 2023) – UScellular is installing an advanced 5G private cellular network solution to enhance the Ignition Center connectivity capabilities at KPMG LLP’s Chicago headquarters. This collaboration creates an innovative digital lab experience where KPMG clients can interact and experiment with the latest 5G private cellular network technology provided by UScellular.
The KPMG and UScellular collaboration demonstrates how 5G private cellular networks can help accelerate smart manufacturing and digital transformation initiatives within manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. As these organizations become more “data driven,” traditional networks are being rearchitected to include cellular (4G, 5G, CBRS). Private cellular networks can be designed for specific use cases and built to include other wireless or wireline networks. These Industry 4.0 hybrid networks can improve operational performance and deliver a rapid return on investment.
“KPMG’s Chicago Ignition Center is our neighbor here in Chicago and offers a unique and advanced environment for technology, so working together makes perfect sense,” said Kim Kerr, senior vice president, enterprise sales and operations for UScellular. “Delivering our 5G private cellular network in the Chicago Ignition Center further establishes KPMG’s portfolio of expansive industry expertise and we are thrilled to support their continuous innovation strategy to uncover new use cases.”
The UScellular 5G private cellular network enables the Ignition Center to simulate real-world settings and accelerate development of applications with advanced technologies using low-latency, 5G data speeds. Initial use cases focus on Industry 4.0 manufacturing, distribution, warehousing and the Internet of Things (IoT). This includes connecting manufacturing facilities with sensors, machine learning, artificial intelligence, AR/VR and autonomous robotics.
“The future of Industry 4.0 and supply chain management will increasingly involve digital technologies and solutions designed to transform the manufacturing industry by providing an integrated experience between public and private cellular networks,” said Greg Corlis, principal in KPMG’s Emerging Technology group. “Upgrading to a private 5G network with UScellular at our Chicago Ignition Center will help us and our manufacturing clients as they experiment with emerging technologies.”
The KPMG Ignition Center in Chicago is the firm's largest, with 30,000 square feet of innovation and client-facing space on the 68th floor of the Aon Center, including KPMG's newest Innovation Lab and Insights Center and its Technology Solutions teams.
