UScellular Awards $5,000 to Wisconsin Artist in Big Smile Art Contest
MILWAUKEE (July 25, 2022) – Today, UScellular announced local Milwaukee artist James Steeno as the winner of the Big Smile art sculpture contest. Through the creation of five larger-than-life Summerfest “Big Smile” art sculptures (six-feet by six-feet) designed by local artists, UScellular celebrated the spirit of community in Wisconsin at local events this summer and ultimately on display at Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival.
Five professional Wisconsin-based artists created a visual depiction of what makes their local community special, and their artwork, designed to represent the rich history of their community, is depicted on the Big Smile sculptures.
The unique Big Smile sculptures were on display at Henry Meir Festival Park and incorporated into a scavenger hunt activity during Summerfest. The community was invited to vote for their favorite Big Smile sculpture at www.BigSmileVote.com. The artist with the most votes, James Steeno, was awarded $5,000.
“I had so much fun creating the Milwaukee-themed Summerfest smile painting,” said artist James Steeno “The final painting is a mash-up of ideas and concepts that I’ve been working on for several years. My painting is an attempt at reflecting the fun and excitement of Summerfest. I’m so thankful to UScellular for this opportunity.”
Steeno plans on using his winnings to expand his business across other communities in Wisconsin. Steeno’s sculpture can be seen now through October at the American Family Amphitheater forecourt.
