U.S. Cellular Hosts Nationwide Interactive Unconscious Bias Tour At Its Chicago Headquarters
CHICAGO (July 25, 2019)
As part of U.S. Cellular's diversity and inclusion initiatives, this week the company hosted the CEO Action Check Your Blind Spots unconscious bias tour to help associates recognize and explore their own unconscious biases in the workplace and in their daily lives. Through innovative tour activities that used virtual reality and gaming technology, associates got an introspective look at unconscious biases people face on a daily basis to better understand different perspectives and experiences.
The Check Your Blind Spots tour is created by CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, the largest CEO-driven business commitment to improve diversity and inclusion within the workplace in the country. It is making 100 stops at companies and events across the country in 2019. U.S. Cellular is a proud signatory of the CEO Action coalition.
"At U.S. Cellular, our associates bring diverse cultures, backgrounds and talents together for a common purpose of providing a great experience for our customers," said Ken Meyers, President and CEO of U.S. Cellular. "Through this interactive and eye-opening tour, we better understand and recognize our own unconscious biases, and it has jumpstarted meaningful conversations about how to be more inclusive in our workplace and beyond."
Research shows that our unconscious mind makes a majority of our decisions, and blind spots can narrow our vision and potentially influence our behaviors. The tour is intended to help people recognize, acknowledge, and therefore, minimize any potential blind spots he or she might have, but wasn't aware of previously.
As part of the tour, more than 160 U.S. Cellular associates signed the I Act On Pledge on-site and committed to checking their blind spots and addressing inclusion going forward.
