Boys & Girls Clubs of America
Connecting to STEM Education
For nearly a decade, UScellular has partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to provide youth with resources, access, mentorship, and hands-on STEM education to ensure they have the important tools to reach their full potential. We provide a total of $1 million in grants to local Clubs to support 170,000 youth with STEM education resources and experiences annually. Find out how we're continuing our partnership.
Creating STEM Experiences
In 2023, we extend this support for the ninth consecutive year by enhancing STEM education and experiences for 20 clubs across the country. UScellular provided new laptops and 3-D printers, expanded programming to include digital citizenship and LEGO robotics, and enriched learning experiences with field trips and family STEM nights.
Ask an Engineer
During one of our favorite events of the year, UScellular engineers visited Boys & Girls Club of Tennessee Valley’s Regal Entertainment Teen Center and Haslam Family Club University to drive interest in engineering careers. Following a presentation on the process of network connectivity, Club members were able to explore a UScellular truck and all-terrain vehicle used by on-site tower engineers.
Black History Month Art Contest
In honor of Black History Month, Boys & Girls Club members at 30 Clubs were encouraged to create original pieces of artwork of important historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators who have made vital contributions to the world of STEM. Ten finalists were chosen by representatives from the Boys & Girls Club and local UScellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression. Public voting for the finalists was made available online throughout the month of February. In addition, the finalists’ artwork was digitally displayed in select stores.
National Volunteer Month Earth Day Planting Events
Leading up to Earth Day, UScellular associates partnered with Brigade Boys & Girls Club in Wilmington, NC. to plant salsa gardens. The experience gave the Club members an opportunity to learn about growing vegetables needed for making a salsa. The volunteer event was one of 40 UScellular Acts of Service scheduled throughout National Volunteer Month in honor of UScellular’s 40th anniversary.
